WCS Challenge Prize Draw Terms & Conditions

1. Promoter

The promoter of the Whitfield Design Challenge (the “Challenge”) and associated Prize Draw is Whitfield Civil Engineering Limited, trading as Whitfield Consulting Services (“WCS”), registered in England and Wales under company number 06413795, with its registered office at Platinum House, 5th Floor, St. Mark's Hill, Surbiton, England, KT6 4QD.

The Challenge is being operated as part of WCS's exhibition activity at Solar & Storage Live 2026, NEC Birmingham, 22–24 September 2026.

2. Eligibility

The Challenge and Prize Draw are open only to UK residents attending Solar & Storage Live 2026 at the NEC Birmingham who are aged 18 years or over and participate during the promotional period.

Employees, directors and officers of WCS, together with members of their immediate families or households, are not eligible to win the prize.

Employees, contractors or representatives of organisations directly involved in creating, developing, administering or operating the Challenge or Prize Draw may participate for demonstration or testing purposes but are not eligible to win.

WCS reserves the right to request reasonable evidence of identity, event attendance and eligibility before awarding the prize. No purchase is necessary. Only one Prize Draw entry is permitted per person.

3. How the Challenge Works

Participants will be presented with five project-based engineering and design scenarios, based upon or inspired by previous WCS projects and project experience. For each scenario, participants will select from possible solutions or approaches.

After making a selection, participants will be shown the solution or approach adopted by Whitfield on the relevant project, with information explaining the decision and circumstances surrounding it. There is no time-based scoring: completion time does not affect a participant's result or Prize Draw eligibility.

4. Project Scenarios and Professional Judgement

The scenarios are based upon or inspired by real WCS projects and project experience. They have been adapted and simplified to create an interactive exhibition experience.

Real engineering and design decisions may be influenced by technical requirements, site conditions, safety, programme, regulation, environmental considerations, client requirements, commercial constraints and the information available at the time. There may therefore be more than one technically or professionally valid solution.

For this Challenge, the “Whitfield solution” is the solution or approach selected by WCS based on its experience of the relevant project and the circumstances represented. A different selection is not necessarily an objectively incorrect engineering solution; it does not match the predetermined Whitfield solution used for the Challenge. Alternative professional opinions, methodologies or solutions will not amend a participant's recorded result.

5. Results and Scoring

Each of the five scenarios provides one opportunity to match the solution adopted by Whitfield. One match is recorded for each scenario in which the participant's first submitted selection, or combination of selections, corresponds with the predetermined Whitfield solution, producing a maximum result of 5/5.

Only the first submitted selection for each scenario counts towards the recorded result. Participants may retry a scenario to continue through the Challenge, but a later selection will not change the result recorded for that scenario.

The result only represents the number of selections corresponding with the Whitfield project solutions used in the Challenge. It is part of the exhibition experience and is not an assessment, examination, accreditation or certification of professional knowledge, judgement, competence, qualifications or engineering or design ability.

WCS's recorded result is final for the Challenge, subject to applicable law. A participant's result does not affect eligibility for, or chances of winning, the Prize Draw.

6. How to Enter and Promotional Period

The Prize Draw opens at 8:00am BST on 22 September 2026 and closes at 6:00pm BST on 24 September 2026.

Eligible participants who complete the Challenge and required entry details during this period will automatically be entered. Entry does not depend on the participant's result. Participants must provide the requested information so WCS can administer the Prize Draw and contact the winner. Only one entry per person is permitted.

Entries received after the closing time will not be eligible, except for a qualifying offline entry described in section 10.

7. The Prize

The Prize Draw offers one £500 Virgin Gift Card issued by Acorne Ltd, trading as The Virgin Gift Card. The prize is subject to The Virgin Gift Card's current terms and conditions. It is non-transferable and non-exchangeable. No cash alternative will be offered unless WCS determines otherwise or applicable law requires it.

The card expires 24 months after its purchase date. It can be used with participating Virgin companies within the UK, cannot be refunded or exchanged for cash, and cannot be replaced if it is lost, stolen or damaged. Participating suppliers and redemption conditions may change in accordance with the provider's terms.

If circumstances outside WCS's reasonable control make it necessary, WCS may substitute a prize of equal or greater value. WCS may request reasonable proof of identity and eligibility before issuing it.

WCS will contact the winner using the supplied email address to confirm any information reasonably required to fulfil the prize. The prize will be delivered within 30 days of the draw, subject to successful eligibility verification and acceptance.

8. Selection and Announcement of the Winner

The Prize Draw will take place at 12:00 noon BST on Tuesday 29 September 2026. Each eligible entry will be assigned a unique sequential entry number and one winning number will be selected at random using the RANDOM.ORG Sequence Generator.

Each entry record will retain the entrant's unique entry ID together with their first name, last name and email address. WCS will retain the numbered eligible-entry list, the RANDOM.ORG result and timestamped screenshots of the dashboard and RANDOM.ORG result as evidence that the draw was administered as described.

The winning entry number will be announced by Whitfield Consulting Services on LinkedIn. If the winning entrant gave separate optional permission when entering, WCS will also announce their name. Declining or later withdrawing that permission does not affect entry or the chance of winning. WCS will retain and, where required, make available information sufficient to demonstrate that a valid award took place, including to the Advertising Standards Authority or another competent regulator.

The winner will be contacted using the email address provided and must respond within 7 days of the initial notification. If the winner does not respond in that period, cannot be contacted, is ineligible or cannot accept the prize, WCS may select an alternative winner at random from the remaining eligible entries.

WCS's decisions about administration of the Prize Draw and determination of the winner are final, subject to applicable law.

9. Fair Participation

Participants are expected to take part fairly and in the spirit of the Challenge and Prize Draw. WCS may refuse, invalidate or disqualify an entry where it reasonably believes a participant has:

• attempted to manipulate the Challenge, entry process or Prize Draw;
• interfered with equipment, software or data;
• deliberately provided false or misleading information;
• attempted to submit multiple entries;
• acted fraudulently or unfairly; or
• otherwise materially breached these Terms & Conditions.

10. Technical Problems and Offline Entries

WCS will take reasonable steps to ensure the Challenge and entry process operate correctly but cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Subject to applicable law, WCS is not responsible for entries, results or notifications lost, delayed, corrupted or incorrectly recorded because of equipment failure, connectivity, software errors or circumstances outside its reasonable control.

If an entry is completed on an official WCS exhibition device while that device is temporarily offline, WCS may treat it as received at the completion time recorded on that device, provided it was completed before the closing time, is synchronised as soon as reasonably practicable after connectivity is restored, and its integrity and eligibility can be verified. WCS may reject a delayed or corrupted record that cannot reasonably be verified.

Where a technical problem materially affects an attempt or entry, WCS may, where appropriate, permit the participant to restart or resubmit.

11. Amendment, Suspension or Cancellation

WCS may amend, suspend, withdraw or cancel the Challenge or Prize Draw where reasonably necessary because of circumstances outside its control or to preserve the promotion's security, integrity or fair operation. Where reasonably practicable, material changes affecting participants will be communicated appropriately.

12. Personal Information and Data Protection

Personal information collected in connection with the Challenge and Prize Draw will be processed under applicable UK data-protection legislation, including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, and the WCS Privacy Notice.

Information collected may include name, organisation, job title, business email address, telephone number, Challenge responses and result, Prize Draw eligibility and other information voluntarily provided. WCS may use it to administer the Challenge and Prize Draw, record results, verify eligibility, select and contact the winner, fulfil the prize, respond to enquiries, analyse exhibition activity, understand professional or project interests, and assess whether WCS services may be relevant.

Participant information may be used to support proportionate business-development follow-up, including identifying contacts with a current or potential need for WCS services. This categorisation will not be used to make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects. The WCS Privacy Notice will explain the lawful bases, retention, sharing and individual rights.

13. Business Follow-Up and Marketing

Participation or Prize Draw entry does not automatically constitute consent to unrelated marketing. Where permitted by data-protection and electronic-marketing law, WCS may use business contact information for relevant business-to-business contact about services it reasonably believes may be relevant to the participant or their organisation. Where consent is legally required, WCS will obtain it first.

Participants may object to direct marketing at any time. WCS will respect stop requests and may retain limited information on a suppression list to preserve that preference. Further information will be set out in the WCS Privacy Notice.

14. Purpose and Professional Disclaimer

The Challenge is an interactive exhibition and marketing experience showing examples of WCS project experience, engineering judgement and problem-solving. Its scenarios and supporting information are simplified. Nothing presented constitutes engineering, design, construction, technical, commercial or other professional advice, and it must not be relied upon for a real project.

15. Intellectual Property

All intellectual property rights in WCS project material, imagery, drawings, technical information, branding and other content remain the property of WCS and/or their respective rights holders. Participation grants no right to reproduce, distribute, modify or commercially use that material without permission.

16. Liability

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where unlawful. Subject to applicable law, WCS is not responsible for loss or damage arising from participation where it was not reasonably foreseeable or resulted from circumstances outside WCS's reasonable control. Challenge content must not be relied upon for any real engineering, infrastructure or renewable-energy project.

17. Acceptance of Terms

By participating in the Challenge and entering the Prize Draw, participants confirm that they have read and agree to these Terms & Conditions. Anyone who does not agree should not participate or enter.

18. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory legal rights that apply. Any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, subject to applicable law.
